Organic Figures and Delusions

By Kristyn Watterworth

February 23 - March 6, 2010

Opening night reception Tuesday February 23, 7-9pm

In this series I am working with the battle between our animal desires and our aspirations to follow social convention. It is in our societal programming to want certain things to follow a code, but in our nature to follow our hearts. The paintings come out of true emotion; passion, love, happiness, eroticism, desire and heartbreak.

I watch the paintings emerge before me while I work. I use the intensity of my feelings as the catalyst between the paint and canvas. Subtle figures and references to nature appear as subject matter.

Bio: Kristyn Watterworth

At 25 years old Kristyn has been fully immersed in art her whole life, she made the decision to become serious about art at 13 with the assistance of her mentor Harry Wilkinson. After training at his studio from 1999 – 2003, Kristyn began her BFA at York University, graduating in 2008. She has been running a studio in Bayfield, throughout the summers since 2004. 2009 was spent developing her new concept studio that allows the public to come and create art in a non-conforming, open spirited space that includes all materials and guidance to get people creating.

She believes that everyone has a creative spirit, it is just a matter of finding the right medium and understanding and developing the skills.
