Portrait Drawing

Drawing the head is one of the most fascinating and important steps in studying the human figure. Both the underlying structure of the skull and its overlaying features make the head one of the most complicated and often confusing parts of the body to draw. We offer a three level workshop to help you address the challenges of drawing the head and perfecting your technique and observational skills. In these workshops you will draw from professional life models and each student will have the advantage of individual critique.

Level 1
Already in progress

Level 2
Having covered the basics in the first workshop the student will now be ready to look at more complex movements of the head. Learning the different angles and positions of the head and depicting the features accordingly will be the goal of this workshop. Simultaneously students will work on their technique and will learn to create more advanced portraits and capture the likeness of the models to a higher degree.

Saturday afternoons 2:00-5:00pm

Level 3
In this workshop students will explore the subtle and obvious expressions of the model’s face. Students will have a more in-depth study of the underlying structure of the face, its bones and muscles, and their changes with different facial expressions. At this level students will also polish their technique in shading and are invited to explore different mediums and ways of depicting the portraits.
